World of Warcraft Hits 10 Million SubscribersPosted 12:29pm Tue Jan 22, 2008 by Tim Grube Tags: World of Warcraft, PC, Blizzard, Activision Blizzard
It was only a matter of time until Blizzard Entertainment, or should I say Activision Blizzard, reached the 10 million subscriber mark in the popular online role playing game, World of Wacraft. The breakdown comes in like this: 2+ million subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5+ million in North America, and approximately 5.5+ million in Asia.

World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access.

Any of you still playing it? According to the numbers, it looks like a bunch still are.

[GOTY] Best RPG/Strategy Game of 07: World of Warcraft : Burning CrusadePosted 1:50pm Thu Dec 20, 2007 by Akshay Masand Tags: Game of the Year 2007, GameBump, features, world of warcraft, burning crusade, mass effect

Why It Won: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is the expansion to the award-winning, life-absorbing MMORPG World of Warcraft. It adds new battlegrounds, items, lands, races, and much more to the original game. This expansion bumps up the content of the original game tremendously and makes sure that there's never mindless killing to get the huge number of experience points needed to level-up. While most of the content is for post level 60 players, there are also two new races, the Blood Elf and the Draenei, alongside with two classes: the Shaman for the alliance and the Paladin for the Horde, available to new players as well as old-timers who'd like to experience the lower levels again but from a new angle.

World of Warcraft FigurePrints?Posted 4:37pm Thu Dec 13, 2007 by Solomon Lee Tags: World of Warcraft, PC

Ed Fries, ex-Microsoft Game Studios VP, has garnered much attention with the grand opening of FigurePrints, a business that specializes in the crafting of 3D World of Warcraft character statues.

As reported by CVG, Ed Fries has issued this comment:

"For the first time, we are taking this new technology and using it to bring objects out of a virtual world and into the real world through 3D printing. We are turning the actual characters that gamers play into something that is tangible and physical, no longer just online, and frankly, we just think that is really cool."

The statues carry a price tag of $99.95 for North American buyers. Those interested in finding out more can visit the site here.

A WoW Once Bit My Sister, Saves Boy From Moose AttackPosted 9:16pm Thu Dec 06, 2007 by Aaron Dunlap Tags: World of Warcraft, Moose, animal attacks, violence, Norway

Dateline: Norway. A 12-year-old boy and his sister are walking through the woods populated by one or more flocks of Moosen, when suddenly one enraged Møøse attacks the pair. Thinking quickly, Hans Jørgen Olsen (the boy), screamed at the feral beast to distract it from his sister, then dropped to the ground and played dead.

"Just like you learn at level 30 in World of Warcraft," quoth the young Norwegian.

You might say this is evidence of video games' positive effect on children, but we've received word that the Moose in question began his enraged spree of violence after playing twelve hours of GTA.

How World of Warcraft WorksPosted 9:47am Tue Nov 20, 2007 by Tim Grube Tags: World of Warcraft, Blizzard, PC

Have you ever wondered how Blizzard's IT team runs the World of Warcraft servers? All of us who are WoW fans know that the servers are still somewhat plagued with downtimes, bugs, and other various annoying features--but, do we continue to still play? Absolutely.

The guys over at 'How Stuff Works' dropped us a note informing us of a recent article that shows how World of Warcraft works from the client side to the server side.

A world server isn't a single server, though -- it's a collection of servers. As of 2006, Blizzard had about 9,000 servers around the world.

It's quite an interesting read. Pay them a visit and don't forget to find me in the WoW universe on the Medivh server!

A recent case in the court room of Judge Judy had an angry female suing her ex-boyfriend of unpaid bills because he insisted on playing World of Warcraft. Look lady, it's difficult trying to get those epic items and running Karazkan with the guild.

Hit the jump for the video.
